Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui daya adaptasi dan stabilitas dua kandidat unggul semangka pada beberapa lokasi tanam dalam rangka pelepasan varietas. Penelitian dilaksanakan mulai bulan Mei 2009 sampai Desember 2009 pada 3 lokasi, yaitu : KP. Sumani, Balitbu Tropika Solok (Sumatra Barat), KP. Subang (Jawa Barat) dan Banyuwangi (Jawa Timur). Rancangan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok dengan 4 perlakuan dan diulang sebanyak 6 kali. Perlakuan terdiri dari 4 varietas semangka yaitu: BT1, BT2, Bangkok Flower/Lion Star dan Uranus. Analisis interaksi genotipe x lingkungan menggunakan metode analisis ragam gabungan. Jika interaksi antara genotipe x lingkungan nyata, maka dilakukan analisis stabilitas dan adaptabilitas terhadap galur yang diuji. Stabilitas hasil dihitung berdasarkan regresi dari Eberhart dan Russell (1966), dan Untuk adaptasi suatu galur dinilai berdasarkan metode Finley dan Wilkinson (1963). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa calon varietas BT1 dan BT2 memiliki kestabilan yang rendah dan hanya mampu beradaptasi pada lingkungan yang subur.

ABSTRACT. Kuswandi and Y. Meldia. 2010. Multilocation test of two hybrid watermelon superior variety candidates with red and yellow flesh and TSS ≥11ºBrix. The research was conducted at 3 locations of experimental field, namely Sumani (Solok, West Sumatera, Subang (West Java), and Banyuwangi (East Java) from May until December 2009. The objective of this research was to investigate the adaptability and stability of two hybrid superior variety candidates in several locations. The research was arranged in a completely randomized block design with 4 treatments and 6 replications. The treatments were BT 1, BT 2, Bangkok Flower/Lion Star, and Uranus variety. Genotype x Environment interaction was analyzed by the pooled variant analysis method. If interaction genotype x environment was significant, the stability and adaptability of lines tested would be analyzed. The stability of yield was calculated by the regression method of Eberhart and Russell (1966), whereas the adaptability of lines was evaluated by the method of Finley and Wlkinson (1963). The results showed that BT1 and BT2 candidates had low stability and only adapted on fertile land.
